Infantino promises support for Ugandan football

FIFA president Gianni Infantino met on Friday with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni in what was the first visit by the head of the world football governing body to the east African nation.

The duo discussed the importance of government as the biggest external supporter of football and how the FIFA strategic plan can liberate the game in Uganda.

Infantino praised the football talent in Uganda and has pledged to continuously help the country’s football to develop.

“The talent that you have in this country is incredible,” Infantino told President Museveni.

The visit by the FIFA President is part of an African tour that he began earlier in the week in South Africa where he met with heads of African football.

Infantino intends to present his plan to increase the number of countries participating in the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams from the 2026 edition.

Africa has in the meantime demanded to be given ten slots in the expanded tournament as the continent gave a ringing endorsement to FIFA’s expansion plans.
